While you have it apart, you may want to consider going to 5/16" dia shoulder screws for the various pivots. It's a big improvement in many ways over the stock SMB 1/4-20 bolts.

My tubes went in rather easily, no grease/hammering required......although my SMB tubes appeared to be straight......can you put a straightedge on your SMB tubes to verify that they are straight?

If you support the top sufficiently, I don't see any reason why you couldn't take each cross-member out (one at a time) and straighten and reinforce. Well, the rear roof support doesn't constrain...

JCtex: The stuff that is used to seal the canvas to the roof is butyl tape. It comes on a roll a looks like a gooey strip of taffy (it's not really a "tape").

It is available from McMaster...
