My local supplier also has prefinished sheets in various species like cherry, maple, etc. It's worth checking around. If you are willing to apply veneer, the sky (and your wallet) is the limit.

1997/Indiana used MDF (at least on the gaucho base, which I cut into for an outlet) (but I have no reason to believe the other cabinets were made with anything different). In my mind's eye, I'd say...

I re-inspected Nick's panel from his 2003? galley box. It is 1/2" melamine/MDF and it appears that the T mold is not glued in, just pressed in.

Brian: Pull back an inch or two of your edge trim/T molding and take a picture of the edge of a panel and post; we can figure out the material easily.

I used to laminate stuff with 1/8" door skins, as sometimes they can be found cheap in a few wood species, but it's easier to just use veneer if you want real wood look. I have...

Well, I'm scratch-building my cabinets from baltic birch and covering them in boat decking, but just for fun I could resurface a fake melamine door to show how it's done........I do not have any edge...

Nick: The edge stuff is called edge banding or T-Molding, and is available all over the place including Rockler.
