I wouldn't be surprised that if the motor can be turned (spun) it would probably start running again but they almost always will stop and fail again once turned off. Don't let that throw you off if...

I think what Herb is referring to is when a vac leak keeps the directional door from switching between modes. I had that happen and a split line kept it in the defrost mode.
