Re: My SMB is dead in Death Valley

Joey,

Thanks, it is nice to know that shifting the transfercase into neutral makes it OK to tow my van with the wheels on the ground.

Re: My SMB is dead in Death Valley

Steve in LA,

How could the differential be "locked up" and not damaged???? Something doesn't sound right.

Glad to hear you van is back and running without cost to you.

Re: My SMB is dead in Death Valley

Well, if the front is down and the hubs are unlocked it is no issue.

And rear down, xfercase in neutral is how mine was towed (with a Ford xfercase). 50 miles of rough Top of the World Highway.

Re: My SMB is dead in Death Valley

Hijack continued.

My 6.0 will starts in Park or Neutral, no foot on the brake, parking brake released. Obviously all vans are not created equal.

Re: My SMB is dead in Death Valley

Why did they have to disconnect the driveshaft? When mine got towed the transfercase was simply shifted into neutral and away it went.

Re: My SMB is dead in Death Valley

Spending a night in a dealer's lot is not fun. But, you will have to admit it is alot better than finding out your van was broken into while you were in a motel.

Good luck with the repairs.

Re: My SMB is dead in Death Valley

Sorry to hear that Steve.

I know what it is like to have your van die in a remote place.

In case it is the key (like carringb mentioned) do you have your 2nd key with you? Have you tried it?
