Re: 12V fridge vs. 12V ice chest

Re: 12V fridge vs. 12V ice chest

Why? Because the stupid, f'n Norcold is working today.

Thought I'd give it a quick test before pulling it out again to take one last look at possible causes and the damn thing worked.

Now this...

Re: 12V fridge vs. 12V ice chest

Mark,

I've been following that thread on ExPo as well. Maybe not as a replacement for my built-in fridge, but as a portable unit I can take in my Bronco, VW, ...

Re: 12V fridge vs. 12V ice chest

From one online source of Norcold DC0051 parts:

DC Power Supply $364.00
Cooling Unit $878.00
Thermister $ 25.69

Assuming I can figure out what's not working, can you guess...

Re: 12V fridge vs. 12V ice chest

OK, got it Mike. Yeah, mine may just be an aberration, but I'm leary of spending another $600-$700 on the same thing.

Re: 12V fridge vs. 12V ice chest

Mike, considering my Norcold stays on 100% of the time, and cools 0% of the time, I guess any improvement would have to be an improvement. It already has a layer of Reflectix over it, and it's not...

Re: 12V fridge vs. 12V ice chest

My latest;

1) The Isotherm Cruise 65 is so close to fitting it hurts, but my Norcold is mounted to the edges of the cabinet material (MDF?) and not to a hole cut out of a sheet of MDF, so there's...

Re: 12V fridge vs. 12V ice chest

1) I have not looked into a make-your-own Isotherm, but I will
2) I'll also look into reusing the Norcold cabinet with the make-your-own Isotherm compressor, evaporator, electronics
3) The...

12V fridge vs. 12V ice chest

Since my only option to my current failed Norcold is another Norcold (haven't found any other fridge that will fit - I've looked!), I was wondering if I should convert the fridge space to storage and...
