Hi MBR,
New to signing up to this site but been lurking for a bit looking at vans and trying to gather info. Like you I am a big mtbr and looking for a rig to be a travel base with my son and I. Several friends have been trying to get me to go towards a Sprinter but living in AK with the cold I dont want to deal with the diesel and the price tag they fetch as well so I have been looking for a 4wd Ford van. Most of the Sportsmobile build outs are very nice but not the layout I desire. Specifically I am wanting a high top (as I am 6'5") and an open back for bikes and a gas motor. Today I saw this one on the site which minus the various racks and shower is about as close to what I want for an existing build.

If you dont mind, what would you consider a more fair price since its 2wd? I am sure this tank would be a little under powered with the V8 but any other considerations I should take into account? Thanks in advance for your expertise! Cheers, Forrest

Mike, The wife had no real injury but did scrape her scalp a tad. It all was a surreal encounter. So many of us are purist SMB-ites and to see a fine machine cheaped out was strange. But were all different, none better than the rest. Like you say a good way to buy a core cheaply and do it up as desired. I'm having thoughts that it could be right for me, I'm really ready for a newer machine. It's cheaper to have a simple layout to remove than one every option, which is about all I see lately. Therefore I'd be interested in hearing about that gaucho frame info from your bud. By the way, I saw on your site that you have a locking rear end. Happy with the results? I mostly have trouble on Baja beach sand. I know a locker isn't the answer but have you had any good results with it in sand? Are you actively looking to upgrade you SMB? Thanks again for your interest. later Lance
