Both of these in the hood really get a lot of attention. I think the SMB gets more however !

Re: New to the Hood

Nice! Welcome. Love the color of the van/plane tow vehicle. What is the history on the plane?

Nice! I've seen some pics of your van and the transformation from 2wd to 4wd from Chris at Ujoint. That's a great looking rig!

Re: New to the Hood

The plane is a Beechcraft E-18S. They started out as corporate/passenger aircraft in the 50's, then became popular freighters into the late 80's, as the corporate market moved into turbines. This one was just bought out of an estate by my neighbor. It was a freighter until about 1991 and then a hobby for the last owner. Most of the old "Twin Bitches" as they are affectionately known by pilots, were pretty ragged out after their time as freighters. A lot like the E-350 cargo vans ! This one is in great shape, and well cared for. Twin Pratt and Whitney's, 450 hp each, 150 mph or so, and total fuel burn of 45 gallons per hour! No DP economy tune available for this rig.

Amelia was in a Lockheed 10, similiar in looks.

Chris and the UJOINT boys did a great job on my van. I really love the way it turned out. They were a pleasure to work with. The van drives and performs beyond my expectations. I could not be happier with it.

It's really funny, the van gets more attention than the plane. If you like vans, then you would love the plane. Its really just an E-350 with wings, and burns a whole lot more gas!

A little bit of rock and roll trivia / history while googling " Beechcraft E18S" I discovered singer songwriter Jim Croce was killed when his chartered Beechcraft E18S failed to clear a pecan tree while taking off and crashed. pilot error last known photo

A single engine Cessna-owning friend always said the big advantage of two engines is the second one will take you to the point of impact after the first one fails.
