Removed Fiberglass sidesteps and vinyl stripes

Thought I'd share a little before and after with you guys. I know I was searching for photos of older vans that took off the stickers and fiberglass body kit.
Before

After steps taken off

After stripes taken off (and smb stickers added for maximum off road ability)

Looks much better. One of the forum folks cut up the fiberglas running boards, I could not find the thread, and remounted the fender flairs. If you are thinking about larger tires that may be the way to go. Much cheaper than Bushwackers.

Thanks larrie. Ya I have them sitting in my side yard now. I remember stumbling across that thread when I first got my van. I'm definitely going to chop them up and pain them when I get my lift and tires. It's hard to justify 600 for the bushwhacker. I got steel front and rear fenders for my Wrangler for that much!

Re: Removed Fiberglass sidesteps and vinyl stripes

Saw on your other thread you are planning on getting the Action Van lift. If you are open to other lifts, I would definitely check out the Weldtec kits. You'll get long travel with Agile's custom tuned Fox shocks for less than the Action Van kit (drop brackets).

Re: Removed Fiberglass sidesteps and vinyl stripes

Is there anyone who doesn't love "before and after" photos? I can't imagine it!

Thanks for posting them. Looking good.

I have fiberglass fender flare/running boards on my current rig, and would love to remove them. OTOH, I use the one on the driver's side all the time for getting into and out of the rig.

My previous SMB had the aluminum steps, and although they are not super cool, I was fine with them because they were not (to me) hideous, and they were very functional. But the white fiberglass ones look so globby - especially the fender flares with factory sized tires - that I'm not as happy keeping them. Ugh!

Anyway, your van looks great!

That looks amazing.
How much more horse power did that SMB sticker give you?

The price I was looking at, the Action Van would be less after installation.. Maybe I was reading it wrong. What are people paying OTD for the weldtech?

Re: Removed Fiberglass sidesteps and vinyl stripes

The Stage 2 kit would be the comparable kit to Action Vans Ultimate Suspension kit. The Stage 2 kit from Weld Tec is $2100 (+$160 for upgraded Fox shocks) and the Action Van kit is $2,895. I think they both charge around $600-$700 for install.
