North Rim/ Southwest Colorado

Had a great trip a few weeks ago. Started off by tagging along with my friend and his wife on a trip to the North Rim before heading to SW Colorado. The North Rim was great. I will be back when it is not so hot and I have more time. I then drove to the Dorlores area of Colorado. I have a friend that has a cabin up there. I slept in the Yeti with Lexi, because they do not want her in the house. Did a great trip up Roaring Fork Pass, Silverton, Ouray and Telluride. Camped at Woods Lake. The Yeti ran great and with the help of my friend who has had Ford Diesels for ever, I learned how to better drive as well. I only saw two SMB Fords the whole time and both were on 160 between 89 and the Colorado border. Here are a few pic's. I am not a photo taker.

Lexi Checking out new cook setup. It worked great and stores super small. Carne Asada at camp does not suck.

Camp next to the Rim

Fishing spot. Would be great camp if not right on road.

Can you share the details on that cook table?

Got it at Wal-Mart. Small light and pretty sturdy when set up. I am digging it.

Re: North Rim/ Southwest Colorado

TexGX: Where was your N. Rim camp located? I assume this was a boondock and not an official campground? We will be headed out that way this week and will be looking for some alternatives to stay.

Thanks,

tv

Boondocking at the North Rim is limited. None in the park, but 22 miles back from the park campground (across from De Motte campground) is a FS road that leads back to some nice spots.

Yes, agreed, good spots down there. I camped there years ago on my motorcycle in mid-November. It was a bit chilly (somewhere around 0). I froze my a$$ off.

But I was up early and rode out to the rim, watched the sunrise over the canyon by myself (lodge and everything else was closed). It was both awesome and epic, in the true senses of those two very overused words.

Re: North Rim/ Southwest Colorado

That spot in the pines is the North rim? No matter what, it all looks great.

I ended up going down the FS road on the same side as the De Motte Campground. There are some really nice spots down there.

Thanks,
