Hi,
We never did make it to Vermont so Leggz and I decided to try a new spot on Manitoulin Island. It's the same place I was heading when I had the front wheel bearing retaining nuts unwind a few weeks back.
This area of Manitoulin is actually an unceded Indian reservation so few people ever visit. Lucky for us because it's quiet.
We rolled off with the GPS set for a few spots that the satellite and back road maps made to look interesting. Also on board were my dog Pint, wine, food, steaks, beer, chairs, enough tools and parts to rebuild the space shuttle, spare battery, and my iPod. Oh, and a book or two.
First stop after the ferry ride was to see my Indian friend Ken who had helped me out so much with the wheel bearing issue weeks back. There was no sign of him at his home. We left a thank you gift with a note, said hi to his huge dog Lefty, and headed south.
After 90 minutes of potholes and trails like this:
We came to the end of the road.
Time for lunch.
With a great view!
Hard to tell it from this panorama, but the van is 25 feet from the edge.
After lunch we made our way further south and found our campsite.
It was cool so a fire was in order. Lots of driftwood at hand. Big fire to keep Leggz warm.
A short hike up the coast for exercise.
We sat up listening to the surf and chatted about our life together. We always laugh when I remind her that when we met there is no way she would have thought driving off some gravel road, down a beaten, rock strewn path to the middle of nowhere in a 30 year old pervert van would be anything of interest to her.
But it is.
So I've asked her to marry me.
And she said "Yes!".
Regards,
Gavin
