Northeast WA state - summit camping & fall colors

We visited the far northeastern corner of Washington state last week. I'd never ventured way out there before.

I got some fun quadcopter shots of the van camping on mountain tops:

(Bodie Mountain @ 48.8273,-118.8328)

Hiking through the fall colors. And colorful mushrooms:

Moose! We hid in the van as it walked by:

Nice! I'm jealous... I had hoped to see a Moose on my trip to New Hampshire last week, but no joy. Very cool.

Very cool Geoff! Did you need 4WD and high clearance to get to the top of the mountain? We would love to get there, but don't know if our 2WD rig is up to it.

I'd say the last 2 miles of the approach road to Bodie Mountain is best with high clearance & 4x4. The road gets steep and crumbly, with an unpleasant drop-off if you screw up.

Nice pics, Geoff. Thanks for posting!

We were in Seattle last week (house shopping) and can't wait to get out to some other areas of the state to explore. We're gonna add this area to our ever-growing list!

Thanks, lndshark! Here is another Seattle-area favorite of mine -- camping in the logging roads just north of Mt. Rainier: http://octopup.org/2013/rainier-north

Wow Geoff! Those (too!) are awesome. Another destination for us to add to our list. Only 12 months to go!

This is the best I could do of The Mountain with my iPhone, taken on a hazy Friday afternoon (76 degrees!) at Ursula Judkins Viewpoint in Magnolia:
