A Quickie

Sometimes, a quick escape from the default life is exactly what is needed.

Wife gone with her friends this last weekend, so grabbed the dog and headed to the mountains for the night. I have mixed feelings that there is still no snow at elevation. We need it, but without it I can still get access to Slick Rock Trail near Bear Valley, CA. A trail I have run many times over the last 30 years, but never camped at one particular spot that always looked nice. Finally took the opportunity to give it a try. What a great spot.

I came in from Hwy 4 side. Someone has re-tagged this as a "JEEP" route instead of "4wd". I'm OK since I have 2 Jeeps too.

Very very little snow. This was the most I saw.

Getting into where I camped is fairly tame. Going past where I was gets a little more difficult. Here's the report from when I went further in the SMB 5 years ago. Doing the entire trail in the van would gut the undercarriage.

Camp for the night.

Did a short hike with the dog (Oreo). He wears out quickly and needed to sit in the creek for a little while to cool down. Good looking dog, but a slug.

Can't go up to Arnold area without stopping here for some apple cider and apple cinnamon donuts!

All in all, gone just a little over 24 hours, but worth it to escape the default world, if just for a little bit.

Phil

Re: A Quickie

I am a big fan of short trips like these.

Life does not yet accommodate my desire for longer adventures, so I try and make the most of what time I do have.

Looks like a fun area.

^^^ all that!

the majority of trips we get are just weekend adventures with the occasional 3-5 day adventure scheduled around a long weekend here and there throughout the year. gotta make teh best of what you got. this is exactly how we do it too.

looked like a nice place for a quick getaway. i havent popped my top in over a month. im gettin bitchy

Re: A Quickie

Sometimes getting out the door is the hardest part, especially if you know that you have a short time slot to do it. It can become awfully easy to just stay at home and piddle away an afternoon, so bravo for getting out (and sharing with us!).

Re: A Quickie

Ah Phil, good to see you getting a little R&R in, even just for a quickie.
Looks like a nice spot too. Maybe one day we'll meet you up there
