Re: Short trip and Mobile Office test
Nice! I telecommute most days for my job, and have used my SMB as a mobile office many times on nice days. Either just driving to a nice place along the nearby Delaware River, or doing an overnighter someplace farther afield.

Re: Short trip and Mobile Office test
Yeah... telecommuting doesn't suck if you can stay focused enough to be productive. I found working in the van to be not so bad! Nice tunes... heater keeping me cozy warm... nice mountain views outside in the snow and wind...
Of course, a couple of my co-workers on contracts that require them to be on-client-site in cubicle hell were not particularly amused with my version of "remote" working...

Well, quite frankly, that's their problem! I would do it any time I could if I were you.

Re: Short trip and Mobile Office test
very cool...would definitely make me jealous!
what all do you have to get to be accessible out in the sticks? my new job includes working at most every hp site other than the one i actually sit at. id love to be able to work from the van out in the middle of nowhere if i needed too. especially since i can see me being on call in the not so distant future

I download everything I need before I go... internet for me isn't real-time necessary MOST days. On those days I need it, I'll have to make sure I am within cell coverage and hotspot through my phone.

I've never really told anyone in my office when I'm working somewhere other than my home. Figure it's better not to kick a hornet's nest. It really doesn't matter where I work, but you never know what some people might get upset about.
I do tell my boss if I'll be in a different time zone, like when we go to visit my sister-in-law in California every year. He doesn't care as long as I'm getting the job done (great boss).
@Shenrie, I have a Verizon MiFi hotspot and iPhone. I do a lot of conference calls and need VPN capability, so having two separate devices is better for that for me. I find I'm actually more focused if I'm working from the van, as there aren't really any distractions other than a nice view.

Re: Short trip and Mobile Office test
New SMB, and a view like that from your 'corner office'? I think we're going to have to call you HappyBadger from now on.
