We're planning on exploring Death Valley starting about 1-12-14. Anyone care to join us? ........

Yea, I guess we really did make it to 2015, thanks for pointing that out. As to where, we're open, but plan to visit a few of the many cabins and do some 4 wheeling.........

So tempting! We had such a good trip to DV last March in our rental SMB. Still working for now, so have to pass, but fully hope to be retired this time next year and open to any and all trips!

Glad to hear you made it someplace warmer than Anacortes! Much as I love the Pacific NW, I'd rather be more southerly in the winter.

I'm not far away from Death valley and would be glad to meet you somewhere on this trip but I'm actually waiting for some parts to arrive in Southern Utah and don't know when they're gonna arrive.

So keep me updated on your plan and I'll see if I can join you somewhere... ;-)

A/T, you might get some useful info from this thread a few years ago about a trip I led to DV. Enjoy!

Re: Death Valley starting 1-12-14

So A/T, you ever been there? Like Jeffery I also enjoy DV both inside and outside the park. This was my favorite small group trip if you dare to peek. Here is the forum post viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4572 Sometimes the best thing is seeing it for the first time by yourself in person but knowing where you want to go prior to leaving does have benefits at times. Also did a trip in 2009 with forum members and another nice trip in 2008 where me and my buddy Don explored Marble Canyon... the best hike I've done there. I wish I could join you (vehicle in shop) because this is my preferred time of year to visit the park other than a great springtime flower bloom. Hopefully I'll make it back before the weather warms. It's just hit and miss with the weather. Been there a few times since but really enjoy those group trips.

Re: Death Valley starting 1-12-14

I've been in San diego for the past few days getting my new Aluminess goodies from Ramsey. Sunday, I'll pick up Mrs A/T at the airport and then head out to Death Valley. Our first stop will be at one of the many public cabins. I've been sworn to secrecy as to the location, but will PM it to anyone who cares to join us. We have been there before and it's awesome. From there,we have numerous places we plan to visit, including a couple that require some moderate four wheeling. Having a second vehicle along would be great. The adventure continues.......

Re: Death Valley starting 1-12-14

We spent the night just outside Barstow, high atop some random hill. Today, we should finally make it to our first historic cabin where we will spend a couple days reorganizing, and relaxing. Breaking down in the big city of Barstow was a great stroke of luck, so I have a an even better feeling about the week ahead. Perhaps we will see some of you there. PM in the next few hours for directions to the first secret cabin location or if you decide to go but we're out of cell service, Rally Panam can give you the directions. From there we will probably work our way North, with stops atStriped Butte, lookout City, camping at the top of white top mountain, Race Track, the Ubehebe mine, and Eureka dunes, but not necessarily in that order. The adventure continues........
