looking for a good place to explore over Labor Day weekend

I am looking to a good place to go for the Labor Day weekend. I live in Vancouver WA and would prefer something with in a six "ish" hour drive. Head there relax for a couple days, head home. Preferably this would include some back country 4x4 driving and camping with limited other people.

Any ideas would be great!

Burns / Frenchlen / Steens Mountain. I'll post our Memorial Day trip report in the next couple of days.

Aldercrest beat me to it. If you've never been to the Steens, it's pretty cool. It may be a bit longer than a 6 hour drive though and would be better if you had more than a 3 day weekend to explore it, but it's worth the trip.

The Olympics are closer and always a great place to go exploring as well. The South Fork of the Hoh is a secluded little camp ground. And even closer to home is the Mt Adams area. It seems like everyone in the Portland area flocks to Mt Hood while the Mt Adams area goes relatively unnoticed. And even the Wallowas would be nice. It takes longer to get to, but the east side of the Wallowas up the Imnaha around Indian Crossing is really nice, but it's a bit of a drive getting in there. Getting around to that Indian Crossing area probably adds an hour and a half as there is no direct way to get in there. But once you do, you feel fairly secluded and there is good camping up and down the river and hiking up the Imnaha River trail. Even the south side of the Wallowas up the Eagle Creek drainage is very nice and a shorter drive than the Imnaha.
