We just spent a great 8 days at Interlochen State Park (Michigan). It is just across a road from the world famous Interlochen Center for the Arts. In the summer students from around the U.S. and the world (must audition) come for 3 weeks workshops to hone their skills. The last week of the 3 week cycle is filled every evening and during the day with both free and $$ concerts and performances.
Every evening we would ride our bikes across the street from the State Park to the Center to hear GREAT performances. Some evenings we were able to get in both a 6pm and 8pm performance. The campus is HUGE.
As you might tell this was the first time we did this. We plan on doing it many times in the future.

Interlochen is about 12 miles south of Traverse City and that area has some of the best camping sites in the L.P. We normally do not consider ourselves camping until we get in the U.P.

That area is also very close to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and it's wonderful hiking, camping, and scenic views. It also has the honor of having Good Morning America's "most beautiful place in America" award.
