Followed through as many posts as I could find on this area in N. New Mexico. Lots of ideas, but perhaps if anyone knows this part of N. Mexico very well, they could list their top two places to check out. Very offroad capable 4x4 van; but easy to moderate is just great; quiet and great scenery for photography. You know...just the perfect spots!!!

I do know of stretches of Chama River east of Cuba; Trout Lakes; Lagunitas; not likely to get to Questa area; Valles caldera is great for retired volcanologist, yet much restrictions there for overnight. Area just east of Chromo (Navajo River Road) looks interesting.
