Bass lake/Moab trip Oct 17-25

Went to Bass Lake and Moab last week for some moto and MTB riding.

We usually do Miami Trails in Bass Lake but decided this time to ride up to shuteye peak since we've talked about it for years but had not yet done the ride. My buddy's lake house is very close to Central Camp road so an easy ride even for non-plated bikes.

We went up two days, when we got to the ranger lookout the first day it started hailing quite hard while the ranger was showing us around the tower. No pics of that as my phone died.

For the second trip up the weather was a lot nicer.....we ended up taking a pretty tough single track down to Brown's Meadow/Gagg campground.

......here are a few pics:

A cool rock on ride up the first day

Another view from that same rock

The lookout tower on day 2 ride (ranger sitting on the rock)

My buddy Mike on the single track down from the lookout

Re: Bass lake/Moab trip Oct 17-25

Here are some Moab pics:

I met up with another group of friends in Moab to continue MTB and moto riding there.

We camped in the Sovereign trails area....there was a lot of rain early in the week so although the pics don't reflect in, it got quite muddy and required 4WD to get in and out of there.

campsite pics:

..of course I had a comfy van to sleep in....

There is a cave for rent to camp in at the Pritchett trailhead if anyone wants to go caveman style...

We rode Captain Ahab the first day, then Magnificent 7 and finally most of the enchilada (from Kokopelli trail) on MTBs.....we attempted to start Porcupine/enchilada from Hazard but there was too much snow.

We also rode both motos and MTBs on the slickrock trail and I took a beginner on Fins n things....that was fun.

Re: Bass lake/Moab trip Oct 17-25

Damn, I was up there (above Bass Lake) all last week and stayed along Granite Cr. Shuteye is one of my favorite trails. We didn't go up there this trip but plan to next year with some friends. I would like to get an SMB meetup around there one of these years. So much to do... off roading, biking, fishing & hiking. Made it to the Mammoth trail head. I think that would be a great hike. There was a large off road group coming out of Shuteye yesterday. When we pulled up to the lookout the ranger was on the radio and told the next lookout that a van had just pulled up. All I heard from the other ranger was, A VAN! Everything is closing up now and it's snowing.

You made a major move heading over to Moab...wish I could have gone there this year. Looks like a great trip you made.

Maybe next year we can get something going as far as a group run. I friggin lost my phone up by Jackass Meadow By the time I went looking for it there was a foot of snow and we had to bug out. Snowed all the way down to Central Camp. Plan to do a little trip report soon...minus the phone shots
