King off road racing shocks...

Added King reservoir and air shock to front of 2004 SMB. At 50psi have about 3" of compression travel, with 200psi have about 5". Total travel is about 9", this is 3" more than the stock setup from SMB with the dynatrac pro-rock 60 axle.

Re: King off road racing shocks...

So you can adjust the height of the van by changing the air pressure in one of those two silver tubes while the other one works as a regular shock?

Yes - That is the idea. The air shock is used to raise the front a couple of inches for off-road use, there is a valve for each shock in the cab connected to the air compressor so each side can be adjusted individually. The other reservoir shock is for damping and is valved pretty stiff for compression direction, but relatively loose for the expansion direction. The valving in the air-shock is pretty much set for no damping at all.

By having a long air-shock the spring rate is not affected so much since the spring rate on an air-shock is based on the change in air pressure pre distance of movement, so if you have a large volume of air to compress the pressure wont change much per amount of piston movement...you can even add air volume outside the shock (a large air line) to make the change in spring rate be very limited...

Cool!
Always neat to see different ways on how people are accomplishing ride handling w these vans.

Looks like you had all new mounts both upper and lower for the shocks made as well?
Is the dampening shock a rebuilable model? Did you have to have it custom valves for the van?

Any additional details? Shock models, etc?

New mounts top and bottom were fabricated/welded. The dampening shock is rebuildable, and the valving is adjustable. The setup is max damping compression, very little on rebound.
Model #'s are:PR2510-SS 2.5x10 PR Smoothie 1/2x1 2/2 spacers Valve F15/12
PR2510-ASNR 2.5x10 Airshock floating piston valve .08/.08.

I think a regular monroe airshock would probably work just as well as the king airshock BTW, with less air pressure.
For the rear the king model was: PR2508-SSPB 2.5x8 PR Smoothie piggyback reservoir. valving comp .012 / reb .015
