New cutting board

Someday I'll add a flush mount stove.. As while I like having one inside, I don't use it much.

In the meantime, I came up with a way to make the stove more useful when not in use. As a cutting board.

Bought a cheap cutting board at the store, cut it down to size, then countersunk threaded inserts into the bottom:

Drilled holes in the stove top in corresponding location for small thumbscrew jobbies:

Lay some foam tape to prevent rattling:

Install newly sanded and oiled cutting board:

Now I have a nice cutting board that is removable if needed for cleaning, but generally will just live there.

It's an Atwood 2-burner.

And truth be told, it wasn't totally my idea. SMB did a similar thing on the same stove on the van I'm selling:

Re: New cutting board

OK got ya. It's a fixed stove. Even a better job. I don't know if I would go to a flush mount. That looks great and has purpose. I keep a cutting board over my flush mount stove.

After three years I discovered the weak link on this mod.. the hinge tore apart in Baja last month..

So I replaced with a new 1.75" 18" long stainless hinge, rated for some hundreds of pounds. Should be able to handle the additional weight of the cutting board.
