Replacing Sway Bar Bushings

Anyone have any info on where to get new sway bar bushings for the front of the SMB 4x4?

Re: Replacing Sway Bar Bushings

I'm interested in this as well. Perhaps someone can confirm but I think you can get them from SMB.

If you are talking about the bushings for the disconnect, I called Peter DelToro at SMB west and they were sent out to me very quick.
Hope this helps.

I'm interested in the ones where the bar attaches to the frame. There are two of them.

I would think that if your van is SMB built, they could supply you with the bushings.

Re: Replacing Sway Bar Bushings

Mine is there right now to try to figure out why I'm breaking these things all the time. I do have a feeling that when the first one broke that SMB drilled out the sway bar itself so the pin doesn't have a tight fit. They are also looking at the sway bar itself. They do sell and ship the parts you need but I'm so close to Fresno I'd rather they do the job. Been W/O the van for over a month and I want it back. [Edit] SMB has only had it a couple of days and should be ready next week.

BTW Scatter, SMB noticed Deaver put in a different track bar and it was rubbing on a power steering hose ready to blow. Maybe that is not something Deaver normally messes with but did on mine. Worth a look.

Re: Replacing Sway Bar Bushings

I got the bolt and all the bushings and pins from Peter last January. I had broken the welded sway bar bolt. I think that is some what common.

Re: Replacing Sway Bar Bushings

Deaver didn't change out my track bar. It is close to the power steering hose, but not rubbing on mine. Thanks for the heads up anyway Dave.
I've sheared off a couple of the sway bar ends where they hook up to the dogbones. Drilling them out to replace is a real pain as they are grade 8. Best way to keep from breaking them off is to disconnect them when going over nasty stuff.

Back on the bushings, I was hoping that they were a stock Ford item and therefore available most anywhere. Mine are just getting a bit sloppy. Any thots on sticking with the rubber one versus poly? The poly should last longer, but would there be noticeable road input due to the stiffness?

Re: Replacing Sway Bar Bushings

You might try Roadmaster. I have IPDs on mine, and IPD went to Roadmaster. They sell a ton of different combos, and it might be that something they had would fit. I don't have a SMB build, so I can't confirm with mine. But if you do some measurements they might help.
