RB-50 remodel thoughts

2005 RB-50 Penthouse....thinking of pulling out the folding bench seat/bed as somewhat narrow for two adults for sleeping. Remove the closets and slider storage (driver side rear). Remove indoor water tank & pump as we never use it.
Install a platform bed from wall to wall - lift it 30+inches to accommodate more and better underbed storage. Then install some kind of storage shelves similar to the ones on the passenger side rear - to store food & cooking utensils.

SMB quoted us about $2000+ for the retro fit idea, but unsure if that would include everything we are thinking - sp I willfully throw myself at the mercy and compassion of the forum "experts" to help me with this concept/idea with some things I have not thought of...etc
Thanks in advance

Re: RB-50 remodel thoughts

30" bed will not be usable at all w/ top down...can't sit on it put on your shoes, or just sit... may interfere with your windows (check height). Ours has 16.5" under it and we never use it all, plus the topdown use is great in some conditions... you can always travel w/gear on the bed if you must (net it)

You'll be AMAZED at the change with a full width bed!

what he said^
I have seen that setup in tall sprinters it works fantastic.
There was one that had drawers and built step along the face of the bed and slide outs for bikes

Man, that's brilliant! Why didn't I think of that sooner?

Re: RB-50 remodel thoughts

Somebody here recently posted that they wanted to buy an "50" style bed setup to replace a SMB-installed fixed bed in their "50" style EB (IIRC). Maybe you guys could swap? I couldn't find the thread in a quick search; I think it was buried in a thread with another topic title, but it was within the past week.

Re: RB-50 remodel thoughts

I have the 50 style bench with only bed high storage on the driver side and a removable bed-board behind it. Because the storage tops all have lift off padded tops when the bench is folded down I have a wall to wall bed about 6 feet log. This arrangement has been perfect for me. I do not have a Class B though, no water, AC power etc.
