Porta-Shower Mod.

One of my wife's must have when we camp is a nice warm shower. Hence, we got the exterior shower option with our rig. Unfortunately, The only time we can use it is when we boondock, while having good weather! When we stay on campsites, they frown on the fact that the H2O run-off from the shower dumps straight to the ground , and I can't expect my wife and our 2 y/o daughter to take a shower outside the rig when the temps are 30-40 degrees or lower! Oh what to do!

So I decided to order the porta-shower through SMB West, and Peter sent it to us ASAP. I did some simple mods and ALAS! I'm a hero again with my beautiful girls! Hehehe.

I started off by spraying the H2O container with a non-slip application. It's made for surfboards, called slip check.

I installed a drain plug.

I tapped the sink drain hose with a T-Fitting, leading to the gray water tank

I changed the shower head to a leak-proof head that we purchased from Camping World.

I added an adjustable strap system (buckles and straps from REI) so I can adjust it to the height of our PH top.

Cheers! Ray

Re: Porta-Shower Mod.

Looks good Ray.
How do you like it? Does it keep the water inside and drain ok?

Re: Porta-Shower Mod.

Nice job.

How's the sink connection? My original one leaked and squirted a lot so I did an upgrade.

I also have a floor drain for my Porta Shower. Works well.

Re: Porta-Shower Mod.

Steve,

It keeps the water inside very well. SMB West uses a great water-proof material that keeps everything dry. It drains very well also. We have an expandable GW tank that SMB provided because we could not have a fixed GW tank due to our options. With myself, my wife and a 3 year old, we use approx 5 gallons of H2O when taking our showers. It is priceless when you are taking a shower inside the heated SMB while seeing snow outside!

Joeynick,

No leaks so far in our connections. Unfortunately we do not have a floor drain since this was an after-the-build thought.

Re: Porta-Shower Mod.

Ray,

Great post. What was the part number for the shower head. I looked for one about 6 months ago and was not able to find anything that matched the threads on our faucet. Did you have to use an adapter to attach the shower head to the faucet.

Thanks
John

Re: Porta-Shower Mod.

Very cool. I bet your next mod will be a larger grey tank!

Re: Porta-Shower Mod.

John,

We got the shower head from our local Camping World. No adapters needed at all. Here's the link.

Re: Porta-Shower Mod.

I think this was a great idea for a modification. But, I have a question. How are you sealing this drain line when the shower is not in use? If it was always open and the gray tank got too full instead of spraying out the exterior vent it would back up into the shower pan, no?

Just curious.

Might be moot for me anyhow as my tank is above the floor.

Re: Porta-Shower Mod.

Ray,

Any pics of the gray water tank? I just have a gray water outlet, but no tank. I know there are plenty of options that I can use, but I'm curious as to which type you are using.

thanks,
Herb
