Side Door Screen Mod

Jage was nice enough to let go of his side door screen, which was in such great condition. I made some modifications before using it for this summer season.

The most complaints I've read about the screens are the poor Velcro system that SMB uses. I made some adjustments taking ideas from our old Westy. I added 8 snaps around the door and good quality Velcro strips on the bottom without interfering with the door seals.

It definitely helped out when we were in the Sierras recently, the bugs are in full force. Enough typing, here are pics of the easy mod.

Ray,

If nothing else, it's nice to see you found a good use for that open space next to the side door threshold (in your last pic). I've eyed that unused space for a long time, but haven't found the right match yet for any of my junk.

Herb
Herb, you don't keep your "Welcome" matt in there?

Nice job Ray. I had talked with SMB about doing something similar but never got around to it.

To Broncohauler-Herb. The fire extinguisher will fit in that space. Ron

Door step open space - That's where I keep my nighttime "P" jug and the orange plastic trowel!

Re: Side Door Screen Mod

Great mod... I have screens for side and rear still in the package because I haven't started down the path to improvement. You provided the solution. Thanks a bunch.

The little side door space holds my welcome mat... roll it up wet or dry and it rides just fine til the next stop.

It was a super easy mod to do. I just copied my old VW Westy's mounting system. Make sure you purchase good adhesive velcro.

Re: Side Door Screen Mod

And did you go with a magnetic closure system? I saw one somewhere on this forum but now I can't remember where. I would love to modify/upgrade the zipper on my barn door screens with magnets, does anyone know of someone who might have the skills necessary to modify an existing zipper closure to a magnetic one? Of course I am happy to pay a fair price...
