PH top trim gasket folding under when closing top

Hi,
The trim gasket on my penthouse top on our 03 SMB tends to want to roll under when the top is being lowered.
The little black push fasteners that hold the gasket in place either pull out or rip thru the rubber gasket.
I am considering taking the entire gasket off and reinstalling it with a dab of contact adhesive at every push fastener hole (not totally glued on so so the gasket can still be removed someday to replace it)

Has anyone else had this problem and how did you solve it?

Thanks,
John (and Jen)

Yes, and "ignored it".

Part of my problem is the gasket sticks to the van. I think some kind of silicone ultra-black or something that would help it not stick would help prevent the problem.

We had a similar problem with our new (to us) 2002 SMB.

We're just back from Fresno where we had a new stove, bushwacker flairs and a ladder installed and a number of minor problems fixed.

We had that gasket replaced on the PH roof, and they added a strip of slick black 'tape' around the outside edge of the PH hole on the body. This allows the upper gasket to slide into place and seat easier. SMB said that it's now standard on newer models - don't know when they started doing it.

Mine has it and it is a late 06 build.

The trim on the VW Westy pop-top sure looks more professional and durable.

Realizing that their might be a potential problem with this Seal , I got in the habit of cleaning and waxing the painted surface of the Roof along with applying a Vinyl cleaner/conditioner .
I do this at least twice a year with very good results and it only takes about an hour of time after this has been done the first time . This simple addition to your cleaning schedule will also prevent the removal of the painted surface that results in Rust that I have noticed on some of the older SportsMobiles .
