ARB Twin Compressor
Installed ARB twin air compressor part# CKMTA12.
http://www.arbusa.com/uploads/PDF/ne...A12_retail.pdf.
Battery separator -> 2" wire -> fuse -> wire -> 60amp circuit breaker -> wire -> compressor
I was able to fill a 285/75-16 tire from 35psi to 70psi in 2 minutes and 10 seconds, not bad IMHO.

Re: ARB Twin Compressor
I was lucky enough get a new one from ebay for $390 + $20 shipping, they usually go for about $495+. I'm very happy with it. 100% duty cycle, small and compact, very well built. Fills tires quickly, powerful enough for air tools and blowing dirt and sand out is much better than sweeping. I'll be adding air lockers in the near future so this unit made perfect sense.

Re: ARB Twin Compressor
Update This thing runs hot! I recently filled 12 tires and the air hose blew up on the 9th tire. The quick connect on the compressor was so hot I couldn't touch it. Called ARB and they said that was normal and recommended that I install a seperate air tank. I went with a Viair .5 gallon tank and steel braided hose.

Re: ARB Twin Compressor
12 TIRES?
Sitting at the end of the trail and charging people to fill up their tires?
With that kind of run time, just about every compressor on earth is going to be smoking hot unless you go with a York-based onboard air setup. A tank won't make much difference, and it can make the situation worse. Now the compressor will be working to fill up the tire at the same time it's trying to fill up the tank.

Not sure I agree. Almost all compressors have reservoir tanks. The principle is the same regardless of platform. The compressor will run longer but it won't take longer to fill a tire.

But the "situation" is that the compressor is getting hot from running for a long period of time, so therefore running with a tank will cause the compressor to run longer, thereby getting the compressor even hotter. Additionally, the tank doesn't help much in filling up large tires. Even a 2 gallon tank at 110psi doesn't contain enough air to make much difference when airing up more than a couple of beach balls.
Charge up your tank to maximum pressure, turn off the compressor, and then air up your tires to see how far the air will go.

Re: ARB Twin Compressor
I see your point. I'm not trying to address the issue of heat at the compressor, that's normal and there's nothing I can do about it per ARB. The only reason I put the tank in was to allow the heat to dissapate before entering the air hose, that's where my failure occurred. The air coming out of the compressor was so hot that it caused the PVC tubing to weaken and burst.
The other solution is to tell my friends to get their own goddam air compressor!

Re: ARB Twin Compressor
Got it. One other part to the solution might be a braided steel air line for the output of the compressor. I have one on my compressor in the Bronco (1/3 HP, 100% duty cycle Thomas air compressor) and the output air line does get hot, so the braided steel may help dissapate some of that heat.

Re: ARB Twin Compressor
If it gets hot, why not mount it on the frame rather than in the body?
