Backup lights out

Since January my back up lights have been out. A buddy tells me they is a sensor at the transmission. SMB tells me the fuse blew. What I don't know is how the lights are powered. The transmission is operatin fine and I would thin has its own harness that has nothing with the backup sensor. Does a power wire run to the steering collum and then to the sensor and on to the lights? If it's a body wiring short it will be a difficult fix I'm thinking. Can the sensor itself short out blowing the fuse?
Sorry I have no schematic to look at and I don't want SMB racking up time chasing something they can't fix.

Thanks for any help.

Dave

Re: Backup lights out

Does your 7 pin connector, backup light pin have power?

Read somewhere that there's an in-cab fuse, and an underhood fuse too.

Re: Backup lights out

Not sure. Flying blind here. The shop is looking at it but nobody has a electrical diagram so just looking for the obvious. I can get the stuff from the shop at work later this week but to tell the truth I hate working on vehicles unless I have the right tools and place to do it and my driveway is not the place. SMB gave up.

Re: Backup lights out

The the stock backup lights work?

If only the bumper lights stopped working, then it's probably the trailer back-up circuit that blew a fuse, which is under the hood (that's what I have mine hooked to). If the stock backup lights also stopped, then it's probably the fuse under the dash. Losing reverse in the transmission switch is not common.

$1 says it is a ground wire that fell off.

Dave, you should strive to move forward in life. This obsession with things you've left behind is not healthy.

I'm movin forward...to Leavitt Lake! Nope, only the Fords are out carringb. Don't need those crappy Ford backup lights anyway. But now that going into reverse blows that fuse, the bumper lights (which still work fine) require me to manually turn them on. The problem there is the next day I'm driving around with the bumper lights on if I forgot to turn them off after backing up the night before. I've done it several times since January

So that fuse only feeds the back up lights it seems. I'm not gonna take my trailer to Leavitt but never thought about the trailer plug. I do know there is a circuit that feeds the backup lights on the trailer which I would guess is tied into the Ford circuit I haven't did any tests or isolation procedures yet as its low in the list. I'm not thinking a ground unless one is jammed against that backup circuit. I'll be looking at that backup plug...one of these days.

Re: Backup lights out

I re-did the wiring for the rear aluminess lights, I have a backup beeper, but I remember there was something whacky the way the manual override switch was wired.
