I need ignition switched 12V power in the back of the van...

I am contemplating installing a small "muffin fan" in the box that houses my AGM batts, inverter and converter. It would be very convenient if this fan fired up when the van was running to vent this enclosure. What's the easiest way to get switched 12V power to the van rear passenger side?

Thanks

Trailer light wiring? It should be there even if you don't have a tow package. I think there's a switched power for trailer brakes or trailer batt charge.

Yup. If you don't have the factory tow wiring (but have the trailer tow prep package), it will be terminated inside the driver's side frame rail above the rear axle. Apparently not all cargo vans came pre-wired however.

Also, there is a spare B+ circuit (40 amp?) terminated within the B-pilar next to the driver's seat.

You can use something like this: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... 1429171459

It would attach to your coach batteries, so when the relay closes at 13.5 V it will turn on the fans . This will happen only when the batteries are charging. So it's not exactly a key on 12v, but when the batteries are being charged either by the alternator or the converter.

I used something similar for an on board air compressor. I only wanted it to run when the engine was running.

On my 2003 E250 there is one circuit listed in the Battery Junction Box fuse chart as Modified Vehicle Power F1.21, 40 amp Maxi-Fuse---IIRC it is hot at all times. In that same connector located at the base of the B-pillar is another 12 gauge wire also hot at all times, possibly the Trailer Wiring Relay.

My EVTM shows the connector as C339.

Both would be suitable to pull at least a continuous 30a 12 VDC load.

I removed our over aged 7pin harness yesterday. There are two plugs exactly where carringb described. Definitely worth a look.

There should be a key on wire to your house/van radio switch. As an alternative. Might want to run it through a relay and power the fan from the house power.

I love this idea.........trying to figure out if I can somehow do this with my existing setup, which is:

blue sea bi-directional 7610 battery separator between starting and house batts

Solar panel/controller on house batts.

Sounds like I would need another controller like Zeta posted above........

This idea would have the muffin fan running whenever the batts are charging, either from solar or alternator-Brilliant!

You can find a voltage controlled switch here http://www.solarseller.com/dc_photos...h_dc_relay.htm You will need to scroll down for the switch. Actually a pretty good site for lots of electrical things.

Also more details herehttp://www.solarconverters.com/index...1ah-or-vcs-1al

Re: I need ignition switched 12V power in the back of the va

I'm not understanding why you would need a controller switch? Unlike a separator isolators are a simple one way switch that operates by voltage levels. It would be the switch, right? The fan would come on as soon as the isolator sees a charge. The only time the isolator would open would be when the voltage is below a standard charge voltage and that would be when the house battery system is drawn down by load. You would simply hook the vehicle side of the isolator to the house battery system and hook the fan to the house side of the isolator. When the batteries are up from the engine running, solar charging or during a shore charge, it would allow current flow. The separator is only acting like a switch in that circumstance. Or am I missing something?

It's a crafty idea for sure.
