Fluorescent bulb to LED

Has anyone found a direct changeout replacement LED bulb for the slimline flour. F8T5 bulb? Or reasonably priced fixture in a LED? Source?

These are great--one will replace two fluorescent bulbs IMO. You have to remove the ballast and wire 12v directly to the sockets. Easy.

Pretty cool - I didn't even know they made those. I ended up retrofitting all mine with flexible adhesive LED strips...

Re: Fluorescent bulb to LED

Have you tried these? I put in two (12" in two different fixtures) and thought they were fantastic.... and then after a few days one of them started emitting a high pitched whine. I moved the whining bulb to the other fixture and the whine moved along with it. But then later the second bulb started to do the same thing (after maybe four hours of use). I measured it with an iPhone spectrum analyzer app and it showed a big peak at about 12,500 hertz. I contacted Marine Beam about it, but so far have not heard back. If not for the whine I would really like the bulbs.

(They whine even with everything else shut down, not plugged in, all other fuses out, etc.) I wish I could figure out what it is!) I wondered if it was something in the constant current chipset, but just don't know at this point.

Thanks Viva, I would press the manufacturer, especially with the high price. How long have you used them, MY reason to change was to stop am radio interference from fluorescent bulbs.

Those looking for high quality nearly perfect LED interior lighting should visit: http://www.thinlite.com and download the LED fixture catalog.

While not "cheap" by any means they're pretty amazing in light output and very, very low current draw. I'm using two inside my work van and with both on in the full brightness setting they pull just at 2 amps total.

Back in the early 90's I bought a trio of their 12 VDC fluorescent T-12 fixtures which are still working even to this day. FWIW those units have over 150K miles on 'em, in addition to their age. Pretty impressive quality.

I love the idea of using a portable tool battery as a 12v test source! I'm going to steal that idea for sure.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Why didn't I think of that? I only have 20 of those no good for a tool anymore but surely they will hold and put out enough juice to test things.
