Flip Down Monitor Questions
Hi all!
Well, the Kenwood head unit is in and I am loving it. The rear view camera works great too, though I still need to calibrate the lines.
We usually sit on the sofa, and sleep on the lower bed in our "50." Now I am considering a Flip Down Monitor. I am thinking of mounting it where the pathetic dome lights are now. I pre-wired power and RCA OUT from the Kenwood DVD player to the panel behind the penthouse tie downs, right next to the proposed install location.
1. What is the best flip down monitor 19" or larger out there? I am hoping for a good picture quality and decent size. I also want to make sure it stays folded during bumpy dirt roads.
2. Have you installed a flip down monitor and what are the things to know?
3. What did you do, and would you do it again?

2. I didn't install one, but I've had 3 vehicles that came with them. Remember to take along your bicycle helmets, gauze, antibiotic cream, and perhaps an onboard medic.
3. I did just what I described. I hit my head on the things all the time. I would never have another one. If you prefer to carry DVDs to play on your head unit, I understand, but we have rather enjoyed going all digital. Tablets/laptop for movies, which can be patch-corded or bluetoothed to the head unit, and less to store without physical DVD's on board. We just sit ours on the counter. Another advantage of taking a laptop, which we always have anyway, is that you can set it up outside or up in the PH and still see it.

Re: Flip Down Monitor Questions
Tapatio, what is power consumption like when using an inverter away from hookups?

Nothing significant enough to be of concern. The monitor draws about 30 watts or 2.5 amps. I don't know how much the computer pulls but we watch 1-2 full length movies and it barely puts a dent in the 4d battery, with the stereo on.

Re: Flip Down Monitor Questions
There has to be someone out there that has a recommendation for an overhead video monitor.

Re: Flip Down Monitor Questions
Skyrat, berns387 said he had one installed by SMB last year, give them a call or try to find a local stereo installer, even car toys. FWIW, to the point of your other Q's, I will ditto what 86Scotty said......we had one too, our set up now-macbook, small external drive loaded with movies, Bose soundlink.

Re: Flip Down Monitor Questions
When I was thinking of buying one, I checked out the reviews on Amazon if the different models. Seemed to be a good way to get lots of real world feedback.

Re: Flip Down Monitor Questions
I use iPads or surface pro and can use it inside and out. I really don't want a hard mount that could be in the way
