Blue Sea setting

I have the Blue Sea house battery to van battery with the remote switch. I also have the Zamp solar charger. Do most of you just keep the remote switch set at auto or do you have it set to disconnect when the van is just sitting at home? I have been keeping it set to auto so the solar also keeps the van battery's up but wondered if this could become an issue because the Zamp is set to AGM for the house batteries and I have lead Motorcraft van batteries.

With solar not quite as bad as you are reduced by night time break, If you were plugged in then I would definitely recommend not setting to auto. You can also change your starters over to AGM and not have the worries or be conscious to watch the water levels in your starter(s).This of course is my opinion.

I did this. It "helped" that upon closer inspection I noticed that the start battery was a Group 24 and not the properly fitting Group 65. So I wanted to buy a new battery anyway (Group 24 contacted the hood!). That made it slightly less painful to up it to an AGM since I was buying a new battery anyway.

(My rig had belonged to an "old guy" PO and had been stored for the last year or so while he got to the point of admitting no more driving at his age; then the grandkids went to sell it and clearly just put in whatever batteries were easiest/cheapest at the point of sale.)

A side note is that during the replacement process, I noticed that the negative cable of the battery harness was slightly broken just before the starter connection (it makes a bend there, and the insulation had cracked longitudinally exposing wire which was now green). I re-did that at the same time as putting in the new battery, so not sure which did it, but the starter suddenly got much "perkier" sounding (faster). Not that I had ever noticed anything wrong before - it had seemed fine. Anyway, something other "E-folks" might want to check. This was on a 1998 gas E-350.

Re: Blue Sea setting

I fried all the standard wet cell batteries (two sets) before switching to AGM starting batteries and think the solar did it. If you run the van on a weekly basis in most cases there is no need to have the batteries bussed together. Best to just go AGM's all the way when the old batteries give out.
