We'll have to add that to this forums lexicon!

I've encountered a few of those great deals that go away--Amazon seems good at that. One minute price is "normal", next its reduced considerably, click on it again in an hour and its back to "normal" pricing.

Some days it pays to watch those special deal pop up ads on a web site---seems to be a growing trend these days.

Good score on the solar----hope to hear how the install and experience in use goes.

They also sell their kits on Ebay, and have a "make offer" option, so you might look there in addition to Amazon.

Len, did the 'kit' include a controller or other accessories, or just the panels. Must have cause I bought two 100 watters from them for substantially less.

Renogy 200 Watts 12 Volts Polycrystalline Solar Premium Kit

List:

$290 two 100w panels (bendable would have been an additional $80 each)
$140 MPPT controller (PWM controller would be cheaper)
$35 12AWG 20' cables w connectors
$26 two mounting hardware kits
$491 Total ... listed individual prices

Got for $439.99 as the "Renogy 200 Watts 12 Volts Polycrystalline Solar Premium Kit"

Re: Just ordered 200w of solar.

That was VERY fast. Ordered panels on the 25th at 5pm and today (30th at 9am) FEDEX brought the order!!

Two 100w panels received:

Have read that panels should be 2-3 inches off roof for heat dissipation. Was thinking of adding a 3/4"x3/4" section of aluminum square channel under the mounting brackets for more clearance. Now I'm not sure. The brackets and the frame will hold the PV 1.75" off of the roof. Comments????? Thoughts????

I have not installed my panel yet, so take this with that in mind. I would go with min 1" or better (I plan to use at least 1.5") clearance under the lower panel frame edge to provide air flow under the panel when parked. If you have three mounting brackets per long side of each panel, then the channel would work. Otherwise get some L-angle tall enough to provide better edge support and under frame clearance. Two mounts per panel edge is not enough, imho.

I am interested in what others have for clearance in their installs.

Re: Just ordered 200w of solar.

I just installed this same kit. I mounted it to two cross bars on my roof rack using two pieces of wood running from side to side. It seems plenty strong enough and is off the roof by a couple inches. The biggest issue is branches getting stuck under the panel, so i plan to make some type of deflector. I ran the wires through the third brake light hole in the roof.
