I picked one up from a friend. Is this a good replacement for my stock one? Will this allow me to charge my starting batteries when plugged in? The original one is installed in the engine bay, should I move this one?

Thanks for any help. I can find a lot of information on it.

It is a 2003. I read the great post in electrical. I guess I need to update to the Blue Sea smart charger to charge starting batteries when plugged in. After reading it, I think I will leave well enough alone and drive it more. I will just keep this one as a back up.
