Norcold refrige removal

After reading several posts on the forum, I went to Home Depot and got a roll of Reflectix to insulate my frig. It's a standard Norcold 3 CF. I removed the only visible 4 screws, but I can not get the unit to budge in any direction. Rather than wreck it, I though I would see if anyone had any ideas of why I can't get it out. It seems like it should just slide out on the bottom rails, but no luck.

"Use the Search Luke" I think Jage wrote-up a project on this. Goodluck!

Mine is a 4cf, but it might give you some clues. There is a writeup of the 3cf on http://badgertrek.com, but I'm not sure how detailed it is. My experience is that it should come out very easily once detached.

Re: Norcold refrige removal

Do you have any plastic covers usually aliened with the one of other mounting screws on the side of the cabinet. If you do the screw may go into the side and hang up the fridge. Mine was pretty tight top to bottom, and needed some persuasion.

Re: Norcold refrige removal

Greg has it right. There should be two screws (one on each side) under the little (about the size of a nickel) black plastic buttons. Just pry 'em off and remove the screws. Those and the four on the front are all that hold it in.
Just don't block off any of the cooling air needed for the unit when you insulate. The air comes in thru the bottom and exits out of the top. Plenty of room to insulate on the top, but the bottom is pretty tight.

Re: Norcold refrige removal

You guys are great. It was exactly as described ...two black capped screws on the side, as well as the 4 obvious screws on the front. Thank you very much.

Re: Norcold refrige removal

Phillip,
Be careful when you reconnect the electrical. Make sure you connect the ground wire first. I have an RB 50 layout and each electrical component on either side of the van is protected by a 30 amp fuse. When I replaced my fridge I reconnected wrong twice and blew the fuse protecting eveything on the drivers side of the van twice. It took my "DA" a while to figure it out.

Re: Norcold refrige removal

Thanks Bob. I pulled the fridge fuse before I disconnected or reconnected the wires. But I'll recheck all the fuses just in case.

Re: Norcold refrige removal

Instead of black plastic caps, mine has flat, gray, metal covers that won't budge. Anyone deal with these?

Norcold refrige removal

Probably making a fool of myself, but I can't see how these are removed. Has anyone seen these before? They are on both sides of the fridge cabinet, and seem to be holding the fridge in.
