Satellite Radio Antenna Problem

Before I left for Moab a week ago, the van needed a new windshield due to a major crack from our last desert expedition. While driving south, I was disturbed to find that the satellite radio antenna had been broken or disconnected by the windshield install, and there was no reception to be had.

After putting up the penthouse top, I leaned out the front a fiddled with the little plastic nub of the antenna above the windshield to no avail.

Before taking it back to the windshield shop, I would like to find out what path the antenna wire takes around the windshield and down to the dash, to see if I can notice any breakage points.

Anybody know?

Re: Satellite Radio Antenna Problem

Also, where can I pick up new antenna wire for a repair?

Re: Satellite Radio Antenna Problem

When I was installing a new GPS and backup camera, I had the driver's side pillar post cover off and didn't see the antenna wire. So, at least on our install, they apparently went up the passenger side pillar.

Re: Satellite Radio Antenna Problem

I installed mine myself so yours may be different, the antenna is magnet mounted so yo can pull it off. I ran the wire to the windshield under the reveal molding and down the driver side to the door seam. I found a grommet going into the van down around there.

When I had my windshield replaced last year, the installer had me remove the antenna and wait a day before I reinstalled it. Hope this helps some.

Re: Satellite Radio Antenna Problem

I just had my windshield replaced on Wednesday. I was watching the guy routing the XM antenna wire. It was routed up from the lower passenger side corner, up the passenger side, then across the top to the center.

Re: Satellite Radio Antenna Problem

Thanks guys. I think I will examine the passenger side post wiring this weekend before I drag the Sporty back to the windshield shop.

Re: Satellite Radio Antenna Problem

Our XM antenna and two GPW antennas are all located inside at the forward edge of the dash under a dashmat. We went this route to avoid a penetration of the van exterior.

We do have an XM reception issue to fix if we are in a non-urban area (ie no repeaters) and we are headed due North or within a few degrees of due North. The problem is a shadow from the van behind the antenna.

We will fix this with a rear mounted second XM antenna.
