A different portable loo...

Anyone out there have one, seen one, or used one of these? A guy on the Expedition Portal forum likes it, but I remain skeptical. HOWEVER... it would definitely be a nice compact option for space-strapped RB builds. Packs down to nothing!

Re: A different portable loo...

Pop-up toilet? Mmmmm.... Maybe a small risk of the toilet collapsing, but the consequence would be horrific.

[EDIT: I will say I did just order the TravelJohn Disposable Urinal. Looks to have something like Pooh Powder from the WAG bags so the liquid gels. There have been too many times when my son wakes me up out of a dead sleep to tell me he has to go to the bathroom, and go the the bathroom right now. When you're in a campground near the restroom is one thing, but when you're too far away, or don't feel like going into the PETT shelter in the middle of the night, or if the weather is bad outside these seem like a good option, at least for #1. Definitely one of the trade offs I made when going from the SMB to a teardrop trailer, is lack of room for 'facilities'.

I've done Mt. Whitney so many times I have several unused Wag Bags. $2.95 at REI. "Any port in a storm! "

Re: A different portable loo...

Of course not the most dignified subject matter.

I wonder about (and fear) the potential for collapse as well... that's why I was wondering if anyone had experience with it. It's just so danged compact it has appeal for the few times when I'd really need it.

As for the night time #1... an old Nalgene wide mouth bottle (clearly labeled) serves as a decent beer removal and containment vessel in the middle of the night.

I'm looking for a loo for the van to avoid crappy (pun intended) weather runs (hopefully not) to the campground hoozit (usually disgusting) or worse, the dreaded cat hole in the dark with vengeful mosquitoes and no-see-ums. The collapsible thing uses the equivalent of Wag Bags (probably any brand would work - it appears small enough).

For hiking, I just stumbled across these while searching for options (can't recall... it may have been someone else on this forum mentioned it... or maybe at Expedition Portal): http://www.biffybag.com/

All kinds of fun!

Re: A different portable loo...

Makes me glad we have a dedicated restroom.

Our prototype van I had a port-a-potty that was stowed in a cabinet. the lid a raised and the toilet could be used in place, nothing to move but raise the top. Great idea.....but the same cabinet was part of the bed structure. So, in the middle of the night when it was needed we had to both wake up and peal back about half the bed to get at the toilet. Lesson learned.

Potentially, but they DO solve a crappy (getting mileage out of that pun today) problem... especially for hikers / backpackers. And believe me... that is genius compared to trying to collect one's stuff into a couple layers of zip-lock bags that still don't seal in the vapors.

I was actually planning on ordering a couple for the upcoming hiking season to keep in my daypack for emergencies. I promise not to allow any picture taking in my vicinity though!
