What would you be sure to include in your basic tool / spare part kit when going off road?

Bottle jack (needs a hi lift range)

Compressor that can handle four large tires
Blanket / sleeping bag if traveling in cold weather
Spare fuses (& knowing all the fuse locations - more challenging than you'd think)

internet access so you can use this forum

The most useful thing for me, which I still don't have would be a list of everything and where it is. I'm constantly digging for one thing and finding another... "Ah, that would have been useful three weeks ago." ... "Wow, I forgot I even owned one of these!" ... etc.

Are there one or two things that you would not ordinarily think of, that you would be sure to include (parts or tools) from your experience with common problems?

Fold-up saw for larger logs
Radiator hose/heater hose repair kit
Radiator sealant
Ratchet strap (can be used to get a tire back on the bead)
Ratchet-type pruning shears (for overhanging branches and brush; keep under the drivers seat)
Rescue Tape (self-fusing silicone repair tape)
Roll baling wire
Sand anchor
Small sledgehammer and cold chisel
Socket for water heater anode
Spare fuses
Spare gas filter
Spare lug nuts
Spare radiator hose clamps
Spare reading light bulbs
Spare serpentine belt
Star lug wrench
Tire bead breaker tool and spoons
Tire kit (extra valve stems, extra tire valve covers, tire patch kit)
Torque wrench with lug nut socket and 6” socket extension

In addition, we carry a complete tool kit, air compressor, Hi-Lift jack, tow strap, Maxi-Tool, etc. I doubt that I could install the serpentine belt out in the boonies (but, with a V-10, you could drive back without it if needed) but we have been on a trip in Baja where one driver had his fan blade cut a hole in his radiator hose, hence the Rescue Tape and hose repair kit. The first time we had the tires rotated, one of the studs broke loose...if this had happened in the boonies while changing a tire, I could not have gotten the tire off without a way to cut that stud, hence the sledgehammer and cold chisel. It seems to me that tire problems are the most common problem, hence the patch kit, tire breaker bars, etc. As a kid, I worked in my father's gas station and changed/patched a lot of tires so I could fix those problems with the right tools. On the same Baja trip, we used the patch kit to fix two flat tires...mine was in the sidewall where you are not supposed to fix them but the patch worked without a problem.

Torx screwdriver set.

I found a torx jackknife style tool packaged with an allenwrench set in metric and SAE at HarborFreight. They look a bit like big plastic Swiss Army knives but each tool is an allen or hex wrench.
