Camp table

Request suggestions for a compact yet functional camp table.

Prefer a size that:
-- Can function as a dinner table for 2 if placed between the captain's chairs (when facing backward)
-- Fits in deluxe box when folded up.
-- Bonus points for ease of cleaning and ability to put hot things on it (top not vinyl or plastic)

Thanks!

Re: Camp table

We have something like this:

http://www.rei.com/product/765282/rei-camp-table-xl

Remarkable stability and strenght for its weight. The one we bought was on reioutlet.com for in the neighborhood of $50. This one seems expensive but it will give you an idea of what we use and really like.

Re: Camp table

We have the large rei type table
also the small one about 3x3

both rollup into a small package

- we no longer even take the large one
- we rarely use the small one

- same goes for the large rv mat, we use a small one

why?:
- less to set up and take down
- large table must go on roof rack, again another chore
- dirty or muddy or wet gear not fun to pack up
- above needs to be cleaned back home
- at end of a trip, arriving back home i dont want a 1/2 day of clean up & repacking

We want to park, roll out the fiamma
throw out two chairs, drop the step to the side doors
- we are set up

In our Westy and again w/ Wilson, we have a ton of stuff to
make a campsite like a back yard

We spent alot of $ buying stuff we no longer need or use

Our Tour de Lost Coast Xmas/NY was 13 nights and 2,000 miles
rain, dust and mud
- arrived home 3 pmish
- wife unloaded food and dirty clothes
- i repacked the rig, filled water, reoragnized the gear
- by the time she got remaining food back in fridge at home
---- Wilson was parked out front, ready to go 'cept food & small bag of clothes

It is MY habit to bring TOO much
I try to camp in Wilson like i travel by air .... LIGHT and only what is needed
Difficlult as we do have room and lots of cool toys to play with

I noticed this when we went out with a buddy, his wife & dog
they have a lance

We both parked, he opened door, set out chairs, used a remote to drop the 4 legs on the camper to stabilize and level, which he did while enjoying the view in his chair, and was camped

We for sure took longer

YMMV

Re: Camp table

I have two portable tables a Roll A Table and a much larger river table.

The Roll A Table gets a lot more use. It packs smaller but does have a plastic coating which may melt if you aren't careful. It's normal use mode is "The Bar".

http://www.camptime.net/roll-a-table.htm

The River Table is a lot larger but it does fold down flat. The River table is the bomb for setting a cook stove on. It's designed to strap onto a raft for use on multi day river trips but functions very well as an extra table around camp.

Re: Camp table

I have a never used set of folding table legs and post from SMB if anyone is interested. You just need the table portion.
The previous owner had two for some reason.

Re: Camp table

Thanks for all the tips. We've been looking at the REI tables as well.

Rob, your set-up sounds like the perfect plan for vacation trips. Microwave tasty pre-made Thai food and be ready to go....

I should add that the Yeti is going to be our full-time house for the next 2-3 years, so kitchen/dining needs are different.

Re: Camp table

We use this:

although we bought it somewhere else (who can remember?). It rolls down to a folding chair size and none of that vinyl on top... however it's not quite as good as it's predecessor in wood that we still love. This model is a tiny bit more difficult to assemble, and the leg extensions don't stay out (somthing I need to MacGyver)- however it's still better for us than anything else I've seen.

Wal-mart has (had?) some folding tables that are more like tv-tray tables and the rest of my family swears by them- don't fit my particular stowage needs, but they love them.

Last, if anybody can find a wooden roll top table like this, I'd be in your debt- note the structure of the legs: the real difference that makes this a better design (alas not made any more as far as I can tell)

Re: Camp table

We bought one of those roll up real wood slat top tables just like your picture at Ace Hardware last fall in Arcada, CA on our way down HWY 1 to eventually visit SMB in our 91 VW Westy (you know, the original 50 pop top). We use it as an outdoor cooking and coffee table as the cross brace legs get in the way for dinning.

Re: Camp table

I looked for a table like that for months and finally found one I like.

http://www.thegunsource.com/item/148435 ... pjDZIT1+c=

The clear coat on the wood is a bit thin but a coat of paint will help seal it up. Warpage from getting soaked is what did in my old version from wal-mart. I noticed that the clips for the top bars bet mangled if the base is put in the bag bottom first. Put the top part to the bottom of the bag to protect the clips.
