Mod - Hi-Lift mount for stock Ford bumper

Materials
Everything but the knobs are available at Home Depot.

2 - 3.5" X 1/2"-13 stainless steel carriage bolts
2 - 1/2"-13 stainless steel nuts
2 - 1/2"-13 4 prong knob. You could substitute wing nuts but this looks cleaner. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...00_i00_details
2 - 1/2" X 2" stainless steel fender washers
2 - 1/2" X 2" rubber washers
2 - 1/2"ID spacers, cut to size so the hi-lift does not rest on the bumper

Have someone hold the Hi-Lift in the final position that you want it mounted and mark 2 holes. Drill a 1/2" hole and square it off with a dremmel cutting bit or similar. The square base of the carriage bolt should fit snug.

Place the bolt through the hole and then fit the rubber washer, steel washer, spacer and tighten the nut until the bolt is secure.

Hi-lift rests on the nuts . Tighten the knob and your done. Very secure, no wiggle at all. I'm going to leave it on and make sure it doesn't loosen up but I think it will stay tight. Long term report in a few weeks.

How do you keep it from walking away?

Hmmm, trust in my fellow man? That has burned me in the past...

A cable lock would look pretty lame.

I'd like to get something like this but I can't find anyone who sells tamper proof nuts in small quantities. Any ideas?

Very nice. Thanks for sharing.

Would a locking wheel lug, like these from Gorilla, work to secure the jack?

That's really a good idea!

You could get locking lugs on the wheels (4 + 1 for spare) and another one for the jack. Since they come in sets of 4, you would have a couple left over for other uses. You just have to get a bolt the same thread as you wheel studs.

I bought 2 sets for my van, 4 wheels, 1 spare tire, 2 for the trailer and 1 spare.

Yep, I just have to find a 1/2-20 carriage bolt. They are the right price, $10 for a set of 4.

I have looked for carriage bolts with wheel stud threads with no success. If you find them let me know. My alternative was to put a regular he's head bolt through the hole, then a washer and jamb nut, with a dab of Loc-Tight, on the other side to make a solid connection. This gives a creates a non moving bolt to attach to.

This is how I lock my high lift jack. You can see more picts. of the whole process in my gallery on page 7 & 8. Maybe some of what I did can give you an idea for locking your jack.

My mount is how Gregg did his (similar to Woody's) but I also added a lock to the end of the jack so the ratchet section can't vibrate off.
