Among members of this site, what is the customary way to insure a Sportsmobile van? For insurance purposes, is it a van or a recreational vehicle? Does anyone have a recommendation as to insurance companies, who are knowledgeable concerning Sportsmobile conversions? If there is a choice (van vs. RV) what are the pros and cons of each?
We insured our van with Foremost as an RV. It was built by Van Specialties, not Sportsmobile. We had to show them the invoice for the modifications. We have liability, comp, collision, and roadside assistance all for about the same cost as liability only on our 7 year old Honda Fit. I don't know if its replacement cost or not.
Definitely look at that thread. Variables include your build, your state, and your wallet. It can be a real pain. Ditto for emergency roadside service.

Had ours underwritten by State Farm(they do all of our vehicles, homeowners and business policies). I explained the custom nature and a simple phone call between my agent and Lynn at SMB West got them all set straight with appropriate replacement values etc... Full coverage for just under 600/yr
