Which side for Aluminess ladder?

For those of you who have a ladder (aluminess or other), which side did you mount it and why did you choose that side?

I'm thinking about getting one since I have a rack now, but I don't know which side to get it for. I don't have an awning, but might add one at a later date if it matters.

Re: Which side for Aluminess ladder?

We consider the passenger side the "working" side of the van spend most of our time there. From an efficiency perspective, it seemed natural to hang the ladder on that side. We also have work lights mounted on that side (only) and this was a consideration during placement. Finally, having vertical access to the bike racks mounted on the Aluminess swing out carrier was paramount. The ladder provides much needed leverage to open and close the 1UpUSA trays.

Re: Which side for Aluminess ladder?

It was easy for me when I had only one ladder... the side the cargo pod opened.

Driver side for me but it had to do with unloading my kayak on the non-barn door side with the Yakima side loader bar.

Re: Which side for Aluminess ladder?

Passenger side for me, but then again, I bought mine used and it was already there. However, I like it on the passenger side. Like tlg said, it's the 'working' side and it just seems right. Ladders on both sides sound good too though.

Re: Which side for Aluminess ladder?

I did the driver's side. I figure I'd be the one climbing it most of the time, and when the trailer's hooked up its a little bit of the walk to the far side. I would like to add a 2nd ladder to the passenger side eventually.

Re: Which side for Aluminess ladder?

Driver side for aesthetics to even out the 'stuff' that's on all the other sides of the van (bumpers, awning etc), didn't want to compete for space with the awning on the passenger side, and I'm the only one that climbs it and drives the van so it's closer to me

Re: Which side for Aluminess ladder?

EB, passenger side. Fit aft of the awning. It is the "living" side of the van with doors, etc. Like the idea of using it as a mounting point for stove, table, etc.

Like others have said, though, both sides would be pretty cool!
