Carseat Options…?

Hey all - thanks in advance.

I'm pretty new here as well. I'm looking for an RB, with the front facing seats (as we've got an infant) - and perhaps another in a year or two… but after doing some reading here, I'm concerned the RB seats are too far away… It's a daily driver, and where I live the RB is important.

Has anyone rigged any solid systems for a gaucho? Any ideas on the laws on this stuff? We've got a larger dog, so floor mounting is difficult.

Any advice? and/or photos of solutions? What do folks do with the little guys during travel?

Thanks again.

BM

Re: Carseat Options…?

We've been traveling with our little man (now 7) since he was 9 months old in our rig. We have an RB-50 and had him in a rear facing infant car seat with the extra head pad on the bench seat early on, I think we had one of those mirrors too so we could see him. My wife would head back there to keep him company when he wasn't sleeping or to check in. Best advice, get the little ones out there as soon and as often as you're able early on to get them used to the longer rides, otherwise it becomes difficult later on, our guy is a seasoned traveler and is perfectly content hanging out and keeping himself occupied (now, often with the aid of an iPad) for long stretches. We drove up to AK last summer with him and take to the road any chance we get.

We've been on the road for 6 months with a two and four year old in our RB50. The beauty of the van is that you can get back there when needed. Mostly they keep themselves occupied, but the iPad buys us extra travel time for longer trips. When they get hungry my wife hops into the galley and makes a PB&J or heats up some leftovers in the microwave while we continue to put miles behind us.

Re: Carseat Options…?

What is the ruling on the gaucho carseat mounting?

We have put the rear facing carseat up front several times and my wife and the puppy dog ride in the back. Seems to work fine for now.

I don't know... But I doubt cops know either - and I'd hate to try an explain it... it may vary from state-2-state as well? It sounds like there's a bunch of contradictory information out there, as the crash tests aren't req'd...

I also am curious about the mounting of the seats on the RB50 - are the seatbelts bolted to the frame, or is it just to the seat...?

Re: Carseat Options…?

Can't speak specifically to the RB50 layout, but our gaucho seat belts bolt to the floor not the gaucho. The gaucho isn't really much of a "bench seat" it is more like a metal frame with seat padding attached to it. What I mean by this is that it is not like a normal bench seat that has 4 bolts in the floor and when you remove them the entire bench seat is removed as a single unit.

Here is a pic of under my gaucho:

In the top right corner of the picture, the bolt head you can see next to the wire loom is anchoring the seat belt to the floor.
