New Build 2003 E350EB 7.3 Quigley

Hello there,
I guess this is as good a time/place to introduce myself as any: My name is Taylor and I live in Big Sky, MT. I have lurked on this site sporadically over the years but being that I didn't own a van, the site really only served as a great place to dream. I went into business for myself doing construction contracting last year and the search for a 4x4 van began in earnest at that time. This rig will serve double duty as a work vehicle (daily driver) and camper rig for my wife, baby on the way, akita, and myself. We are avid skiers, mountain bikers, fly fishers, hunters, campers.... so the build out will be multi purpose.

Here are some pics of the beauty:

Next step will be to tear out the existing 3/4 Ply floor which is nasty and too glue covered to reuse.

From searching on here it appears that the Fatmat Rattletrap is a good choice for sound deadening; anyone have any input on this product or other, specifically, how much do I need square footage wise?

Thanks!

Looks like a good van. What kind of front bumper it that? Over the years I've owned three vans. One thing for sure is needs and ideas change constantly so go for adaptability. And try not to drill holes in anything if you don't have to. Weight = gas mileage.

Thanks for the input J. The front bumper is a modified ARB. Believe it or not on the 147 mile drive home I got 24.6 mpg; blew my mind! Obviously further testing will be needed to determine actual averages but this sure was a pleasant surprise!

I like your comment re: adaptability; this van will hopefully be meeting several needs so modular and thoughtful design is paramount.

Nice start. Looking forward to what you do.

This site is definitely the place where dreams become reality...then your money is gone.

Nice rig! Was that drive home all downhill?

On a side note, you ever run into a Sarah Baden skiing around Big Sky. I've done a lot of Grand Canyon river trips with her.

Haha, no Joe, it is actually ~3000' of elevation gain.

Sarah's name is is familiar but I can't say that I know her. I do quite a bit of rafting myself but haven't been down the Grand yet.

I'll be interested seeing what's under the plywood floor----crossing my fingers here there's no rust or perforations in the floor. Seems most vans with any sort of floor covering develop that condition.

Good looking van to start your project----looking forward to your progress!

Any idea which ARB bumper that is, or what it came off of? It looks really great. I guess I might have to do the same. I love the Aluminess but it's really $$$ and almost everyone else has one. I like to be a little different.

Congrats on the van, it's a real sweetie!
