FIRST POST! Building my own campervan (E-250)

Hi everyone!

This is my very first post! here goes...

I'm selling my little two seater convertible because and I'll be buying a 2011 or 2012 Ford E-250 extended cab and converting it into a Roadtrek type of campervan, ok ok I know it wont have the perfect finishing touch like the Roadtrek or pleasure way but I'll do my best to make it look good (for me).

This is my first try at this so I want to get it right the first time, I work in residential architecture so I have some knowledge but not that much, I decided to draw up the plans, post them here and use the feedback from you guys to plan the whole thing as much as possible.

So here they are! please don't hesitate to let me know what you think or if you have any questions.

Welcome. It looks like a well thought out plan for 2. I'm curious about the air conditioner in the rear. Are you thinking below the floor or up high in the fixed top?

Good on ya for doing the homework. I see that the guy standing in view A and B has the makings for a beer belly.
You'll fit right in. j/k
Are you going to build the ~22" raised roof?
I saw a home build raised roof at the boneyard yesterday and it didn't really look all that bad. I was impressed with the rounded corners. I believe they were sheet metal but the panels were plywood.
having the plywood exterior panels will definitely allow mounting exterior components like an awning or lights.
Just remember that , necessity is the mother of invention. Kudos.

Remember that you cannot necessarily place the windows anywhere you want. There are vertical structural supports that probably should not be cut. I just don't want you to count on a particular placement and then have to redesign it. Think of the vertical structural supports as building codes.

Ok I'll tell you what I'm thinking but I'm warning you, I'm new to all this, I don't know what my options are yet.

I can't put an A/C on top because I want to limit the overall height (garage door) so I was thinking installing it in the rear.
I thought about using one of those 12v under dash add on A/C units and building some sort of exterior hood out of plastic or fiberglass?

To your knowledge is there any kind of small wall or window A/C unit specially for RVs? it would be a lot more simple...

b.t.w. I want to keep the bottom free for the tanks (water/propane/etc)

haha good thing I don't drink!

I'm not building the 24" high roof, I'll probably buy it from this company neer my house but do the install myself, not sure yet.
It's not the best looking design but it's got tones of space.

take a look :

I found a PDF file that explains exactly where you can cut and where you can't, thanks internet! lol

And if you look at my other post with the side view of the A/C, I'm probably going to keep a couple of feet of roof in the back.

Never heard of a 12 volt add on ac unless it is evaporative roof mount. Can you show link?

Re: FIRST POST! Building my own campervan (E-250)

I cop to almost complete ignorance on air conditioners, but that AC kit looks like it has an engine-driven compressor. If that's right it will only work when the van engine is running, and it might not work at all so far from the engine.
