Re: 98 e350

Just curious what new parts were included and why were/are they necessary?

Re: 98 e350

I found a really nice e350 diesel after a few months of looking. Only problem was 595000 miles. Then I found the 2001 f250 diesel totaled but only 70000 miles. Now its time to put the two together and add 4x4. I put some pictures in the gallery. I think others can see them there. If not let me know and Ill try another way. Thanks for the good ideas on the forum.

Nice finds. Just wondering about compatability of truck and van engine related items. I think there are a number of differences to take into account. Good luck with the project!

Okay I see what you're doing now.

Going into this you don't have a lot invested. Once all you have one van from the two scrapping the unused metal should get you a good chunk of money back.

Hope to see some photos of your progress.

Re: 98 e350

I finally got the van back! Only bummer is the fact that it is still not driving. Local shop installed the engine complete with a long list of new parts. If you attempt to put a 7.3 truck motor in the van the only thing you can use is the longblock! Nothing else is compatible. Also the two motors should be 99.5 or newer due to injector differences. For some reason 98 is an odd year. The real bummer was buying new diesel injectors at the end $200 a piece times 8! Ouch! Got to drive it 50 miles before giving it to the transmission shop. It drives awesome! Way faster than my 01 f250. They had it for a week and then it was towed to my house. Current state. refreshed 7.3 power stroke, new 4r100 transmission, np271 transfer case installed. While the van was getting fixed I spent the last month rebuilding the sterling 10.5 and the dana 50 for the front. New brakes, wheel bearings, sandblasted housings, new ball joints, and new diff covers. Hopefully this week I will be able to put the axles under it so I can order driveshafts and get this guy on the road. Maybe after a few PBR's we can establish its real name, for now its money pit but I cant buy one for what I have in it. Il'll post some pictures later this week when we are putting the axles and suspension on. Cant wait!
