Southeastern build

Hello all,
Let me start out with a huge thank you to all who have contributed to this website. It has been a tremendous help.

So this is my build its a 04 e250 with 75k on the clock. I'm about three weeks into the build so far. So I have a few more pics to post up. The first one shows the wrap that was on the van it took a good twelve hours to remove the wrap. A cheap harbor freight heat gun worked out well for the job just ended up with about two blistered fingers. A little bit of goo gone seemed to work better than anything getting the leftover residue off.

Re: Southeastern build

Not sure how the paint under the wrap looks after its removed but a bit rubbing compound hand-applied followed by a good hard wax (also hand applied) should smooth out any color differences.

Overall the body looks in good shape---a good beginning.

Naturally we'll all want as many photos as you care to post. We're here to help if we can---do be shy about asking. Then again most of us will chime in whether we're asked or not.

Re: Southeastern build

Congratulations, looks a super buy. Eagerly await future posts.

If your budget allows, consider colour change to red, yellow, orange. Just saying, its your van.

Penthouse top? Diesel or gas? What layout are you planning? 4x4?

Great times ahead.

Re: Southeastern build

JWA- the paint was really protected by the wrap except for one spot on the drivers side on the top body
Body seem or break. It had started to peel and bubble there. But luckily for me my window will
cover it up. There is a slight difference in paint color and I'm planning on the buffing and wax but
haven't done it yet. Maybe tomorrow.

SHERRIFFDOUG- I would love to do a color change instead of a plain white boring van but the budget
Just won't allow it. Poptop yes! Bought the one off classifieds from CCV ( pics coming
Soon). Also ordered a 4wd kit from Derek too but it hasn't arrived yet. As for the mot
It's a 5.4 wish I had something bigger but they are hard to find around here you just
don't see many. This will be the second 5.4 that I have owned and they really seem to

Is called but I will have four captains chairs with a power slide couch in the rear. Cab-
inets will run down the driver side.

Re: Southeastern build

Yep that's the one! Boywonder I've read and re-read your posts before my install they were very helpful.

The original plan was a 2' high top but then when Derek posted the top we weighed out all the options and decided to go with the pop top. The nearest place for us to get a high top was North Carolina at fiberglassme. So by the time I took off work and drive up there and back then had it painted we would have been in it for probably more money. And they only offered a 16" top so I still wouldn't be at the height I'm at now.

By the way if anyone needs something shipped via freight try shippingquote.com they arranged all the shipping and it cost $309 to ship from Colorado to alabama.

Re: Southeastern build

So I picked up a 99' conversion van about a year ago for parts. Ended up paying $600 for the rig. I'm reusing the two out of the three windows a few trim peices, the leather seats, and the rear auxiliary air.

Once I marked out the window on the body I drilled out the corners first then went inside and cut out the inner structure with an angle grinder. I then used a jigsaw to cut the window outline.

Sounds like you have been thinking about doing this for quite a while. Good planning on your part.

Stoneman: If you need further definition of the roof hole cut out please don't hesitate to ask.....

Since you have an EB, the way SMB mounts the PH top is to relocate one of the removed roof cross ribs behind the B pillar cross rib and cut the hole behind that....

FWIW the older E-Series roof ribs were removable; a bolt on one end, tab inserted into the side roof beam and expanding foam adhesive to secure the roof sheet metal. Fortunately that adhesive deteriorates quickly making scrap yard removal of these pieces fairly simple. (A heavy gauge wound guitar string can work as a saw if that stuff is persistent.)

Up to about '99 these roof ribs were removable--later years had them spot welded to the upper side roof beams.
