High Top or Pop Top?

I am debating on if I should get a pop top or a fiberglass high top.

Roof rack is a must.

What do you guys think?
Where is the best place to get one?

Thanks in advance,
-Chuck

Re: High Top or Pop Top?

That is a pretty loaded question that depends heavily on your situation. My situation required sleeping for 3 and fitting into an 8' garage door. Therefore I needed a pop top.

What are your needs?

Re: High Top or Pop Top?

Sorry about that,

I don't need to fit in any garage. I like the idea of having a pop top but either one will suit me. I really just want quality and durability.

Pop Top or fixed high top? Hmmmmmm... you can kind of have both with the CCV high top. Check out REF's gallery

I think you might find cost a factor that could help the decisions. Pop top is $8000+, high tops you can find at a junkyard for hundreds. Even brand new they're a quarter the cost of a pop top.

Indeed cost of raw parts for the fixed raised roofs is considerably less however proper installation could run $1-2,000 if the necessary DIY skills aren't present.

Re: High Top or Pop Top?

Get the poptop if you need additional sleeping space. Get the low profile top(SMB top gives 5"11" headroom) if storage space is an issue.

Re: High Top or Pop Top?

G'day,
I love the clean air & ventilation of the Penthouse Popup roof built by SMB, the view, ease of electric operation and additional accomodations, popup gives far lower clearances, and increased fuel economy with less wind drag.
By the time you put on a roofrack on a hightop roof it will be at least 2-3 ft higher than a poptop.
Cheers. Doug

Re: High Top or Pop Top?

We have the 24" fixed top. I surely would not want to access a roof rack on that, not to mention clearance for trees and coffee shop awnings. We use a trailer instead.
