Locking Hub Problem?

I am currently in New England doing some skiing in my 03 Sportsmobile with a quigly 4x4 conversion. I locked the hubs today then shifted it into 4 high to try and get it out of some snow. Unfortunately I still had no power to my front wheels.

I am no mechanic but I had someone press on the gas while I watched underneath. The drive shaft to the front spins when I put it into 4 but still no power. My guess is the Warn hubs are not locking. I am going to pull them off tomorrow and look. Any other suggestions for what could be going wrong?

Re: Locking Hub Problem?

It sounds like there is too much grease in the lock hub itself and being so cold is not engaging.

Re: Locking Hub Problem?

It's possible to assemble those hubs with a part reversed. Looks OK, goes together OK, just doesn't lock.

Sorry, I don't know the precise details, but it was discovered on mine when the mechanic repacked the wheel bearings a couple of years ago.

Re: Locking Hub Problem?

Thanks guys, It happened once before when we were in AK. I took them apart and put them back together and it worked again. I did pack it pretty full of grease. Maybe to much.

The hub should only have a light coat of light weight grease.

Re: Locking Hub Problem?

Update.
I took the hubs apart a last week. The ring on the backside of both the hubs had come out of the grove they sit in. So basically when I locked the hubs it would push the whole mechanism back instead of engaging. This has happened once before on one of the hubs. Any idea what would cause this. It is a common issue?

Thanks everybody for the help.
