Is the ARB rear locker worth adding to my build?
First of all, we're having SMB West build us a new EB 350. Secondly, the wifey loves camping, but hates campgrounds. So the plan is to get way off the beaten track. We've already spec-ed out the full floating Dynatrac, the front ARB locker and the Trojan bumpers with the Warn winch. So....
Is the rear locker necessary?
Also, is there anything else we should be looking at to make sure our van is back road worthy?
Thanks,
Frank

In my opinion, if you plan to drive in slippery/snowy condition, it's likely better to install a LSD (limited slip)on the rear axle which is more progressive in slippery conditions. and you still have de front locker for difficult pass. If you plan to make real rock-crowling, having real lockers on both axles is definitely the best.

Re: Is the ARB rear locker worth adding to my build?
If you do get a locker, maybe look at other choices. I've had friends with ARBs have all kinds of issues with seals and sucking up gear oil. You also have a pump which can fail. I don't know if they make them for D60 and bigger but both Ox and Eaton lockers get good reviews. I just put an Eaton in the D44 in my Jeep.
My SMB has a LSD, it works good enough for what I use the SMB for.

Re: Is the ARB rear locker worth adding to my build?
Lots of theories on this one like tire pressures but....
I had a LS in the rear that came with the van and was not happy with it's results. I may have just needed to be adjusted or replaced but I ended up going with a new ARB in the rear.
If I remember correct Eaton has LS/Full Time locker combo that I would have gone with but they don't make it for my axle. Best of both worlds....LS and then full locker when needed.

Re: Is the ARB rear locker worth adding to my build?
I've had ARB's (front and rear) in my Quigley for the past 5 years. Not one problem with them. Rarely use the front one but lots of use for the rear - whenever I get the van in a real twist where one rear wheel leaves the ground, a touch of a couple buttons and I can drive on without having to pull it into 4x4. Wouldn't be without them now that I've experienced them.

I really want the eaton elocker but have been very happy with my LS and can not justify the expense yet.

No, well at least my Eaton is open/locked. You might be thinking of the ECTD.

Re: Is the ARB rear locker worth adding to my build?
Just an FYI about the Auburn Gear ECTED MAX locker. The new Dana 60 model is Open to Lock. The L/S to Lock is for the Dana 50, 44, 35 etc.
Cheers
Darryl
