HD Spring Shackles

I had a rear shackle fail on me today. The other side is cracked too. I guess the Ford shackles are prone to this. Any heavy duty options out there? Should I have known about this?

Re: HD Spring Shackles

I don't know how they fit with Deavers, but I really like these:
http://www.sulastic.com/sulastic

They primarily isolate harshness, however they do not make the ride "plush" (but that's what you have Deavers for anyways ).

I've had mine on for a while now. I think close to 200,000 miles. The rubber torsion isolator is finally sagging enough I'll probably update them with a new set soon, since they hit the stops when loaded heavy which makes them ride like a regular shackle. They are definitely robust.

I put new OEM shackles on when I put my Deavers on, figure they'll give me another 10 years.

I figured Deaver replaced them when they did the job. No?

I gave new OEM shackles and bolts/nuts to Deavers because mine were incredibly rusty. I don't know if they normally replace them.

Re: HD Spring Shackles

Improper installation will shorten their life. Bolts should be left loose until that vehicle is at ride height and the springs are carrying the load, then they should be tightened in that neutral position.

Thicker leaf packs like Deaver or National will not torsionally twist as easily as stock springs and will transfer the torsional loads to the spring hangers and shackles when the axle articulates.

When I race Stock Full Trucks, these were replaced after every race.

Re: HD Spring Shackles

Good stuff. Thanks. Think the Sulastic shackles would aid articulation?
